BCA Syariah Encourages Women-owned MSMEs to Make Sustainable Impact
Jakarta, May 2, 2024 - PT. Bank BCA Syariah (BCA Syariah) closed a series of capacity-building and mentoring programs for female MSMEs by awarding three participants who completed the activities over a four-month period and demonstrated outstanding performance.
WEpreneur 2 Program Award Presentation by BCA Syariah - BCA Syariah Director, Ina Widjaja, presented the award to the best BigSista, Robiatul Adawiyah, Founder of Batik Tjakraningrat, at the BigSista Summit 2024 online event on Thursday (05/02/24).
The awards were virtually presented by BCA Syariah Director, Ina Widjaja, at the BigSista Summit 2024 event on Thursday, May 2, 2024. The three recipients were Robiatul Adawiyah, founder of Batik Tjakraningrat; Yessie Natasia Mareti from the Fashionistas brand, and Carolina Ardelia from the Calore Art & Crafts brand. Participants were evaluated based on a combination of three aspects: business, sustainable impact, and leadership profile.
BCA Syariah Director Ina Widjaja stated, "The top three participants were selected based on business performance, significant social and environmental impact of their efforts, as well as outstanding leadership skills and active knowledge-sharing with MSMEs in the community through micro-mentoring activities. Congratulations to the winners; may the knowledge gained during the program be implemented to support business growth and make a positive impact on the environment and surrounding community."
Empowering and training female MSMEs is part of BCA Syariah's sustainable finance strategy focused on being a contributive and responsible institution. BCA Syariah continuously strives to fulfill its social responsibility by empowering the local economy and enhancing Sharia financial literacy.
In this year's WEpreneur program, 40 nurtured MSMEs known as BigSista received training through intensive classes from experts and experienced industry practitioners. BigSista also passed on their knowledge by engaging in micro-mentoring with other MSMEs. In total, all BigSistas conducted 58 micro-mentoring activities, reaching up to 1,528 other female MSME participants for education purposes.
Out of the total participants, BCA Syariah selected 20 chosen BigSistas to participate in a business pitching competition. This activity was part of the preparation program to train BigSistas in attracting investors to scale their businesses. Participants were coached to refine business ideas, draft business proposals, and present them in an engaging manner.
The potential of female MSMEs in Indonesia is substantial, aligning with the wide market opportunities. Female MSMEs in Indonesia have become a driving force in the national economic growth. According to BPS data for 2021, women manage 64.5% of total MSMEs in Indonesia, around 37 million MSMEs, with projections for 2025 to have a total value of USD 135 billion.
Co-founder of Shestarts.id, Geraldine Christina, stated, "The role of women has become an indispensable element in the MSME ecosystem. Many examples show that MSMEs managed by women have a competitive advantage due to their sensitivity to social and environmental issues and their innovative capabilities. Data from the World Economic Forum indicates that one in two social enterprises worldwide is led by women, compared to one in five conventional enterprises. Women's contribution to enhancing economic and social welfare is significant."
BCA Syariah consistently supports the growth of small and medium enterprises through education and financing. In supporting business growth in the MSME sector, by March 2024, BCA Syariah had disbursed UMKM financing amounting to Rp1.9 trillion. The composition of BCA Syariah's MSME financing reached 20.7% of the total financing of Rp9.3 trillion. MSME financing disbursement also became the largest contributor to sustainable financial portfolios, with a composition of 70.0% of the total sustainable financing recorded at Rp2.8 trillion.
