Jakarta, May 24, 2025 – PT Bank BCA Syariah (BCA Syariah) successfully hosted a webinar on Saturday, May 24th, titled Eco-Qurban: Training on Environmentally Conscious Handling and Slaughter of Sacrificial Animals. The initiative aimed to educate the public on conducting sacrificial worship in accordance with both sharia principles and environmental stewardship in anticipation of Eid al-Adha 1446 H.
The webinar was a collaborative effort with the Center for Halal Science Studies (HSC) IPB University and featured esteemed speakers Dr. Salahuddin El Ayyubi, Lc., M.A. (Member of the MUI Special Da'wah Institute & Lecturer at IPB) and Drh. Sugeng Dwi Hastono (Slaughtering Practitioner & Veterinarian at Amanah Veterinary Services). The event commenced with opening remarks from Prof. Dr. H. Fathurrahman Djamil, M.A., Chairman of the BCA Syariah Sharia Supervisory Board, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Khaswar Syamsu, M.Sc., Head of HSC IPB University. The training was well-received, with over 150 participants comprising mosque administrators and members of the general public from across Indonesia.
This Eco-Qurban webinar reflects BCA Syariah's commitment to enhancing public literacy and integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations into its operational framework. The initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those addressing good health and well-being, responsible consumption and production, and waste reduction. The training sought to cultivate a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability and its associated social and ecological benefits within the context of sacrificial worship.
Ina Widjaja, Director of BCA Syariah, stated, “Sacrificial worship transcends spiritual observance; it embodies our dedication to the broader community. Eco-qurban strongly resonates with sustainability values, emphasizing the crucial harmony between environmental, social, and governance aspects.”
The training equipped participants with comprehensive knowledge regarding the sharia and fiqh aspects of sacrificial animal offerings, alongside environmentally responsible methods for handling and slaughtering the animals. BCA Syariah encouraged participants to minimize the use of single-use plastics during the sacrifice and to implement effective slaughter waste management practices to mitigate environmental pollution. Furthermore, the webinar addressed essential hygienic and sanitary procedures for handling the products of the slaughter to ensure optimal quality.
Ina Widjaja further commented, "We are confident that this training will provide significant benefits to mosque administrators who partner with BCA Syariah and the wider community by enhancing their understanding and skills in sacrificial slaughter. By adopting sound hygienic and environmentally friendly practices, we aspire to make our sacrificial offerings more meaningful and beneficial for both the community and the environment.”
